"Face It" Video Campaign Overview
The "Face It" public awareness video is a play on words inspired by the Joseph Conrad quote: "Facing it, always facing it, that's the way to get through. Face it."
Children who have "faced" trauma are invisible to the general public. They are hidden by the privacy and confidentiality necessary to keep them protected. The children in the video are previous clients of the Dearing House CAC - not actors - who have had their identity protected by the use of self portraits. This approach gives overcomes of abuse a face, and a voice, that shows their resilience and hopefulness without labeling them as victims. "Face It" creates a visual message of child victims strong enough to "face" and conquer the emotions they experienced when they arrived at the CAC and how their happiness and well-being have now been restored.
The main objective of "Face It" is to put a face on the silent and hidden victims of child sexual abuse. By showing these children in a positive light, other children may be encouraged to face and conquer their fears. The video also aims to bring awareness to the vital role of Children's Advocacy Centers in the process of "hearing, helping, and healing" victims of child sexual abuse.
